The Ideal Experience of Thrifting
This is a thorough research endeavor aiming at clarifying the relationships that people have with thrift. Over a month of study, the procedure used several qualitative techniques. Based in Mexico, India, and the United States, the research team visits easily accessible secondhand stores to do both overall non-participatory observations and interviews. With 15+ participants ranging in age from 18 to 50 from many origins, professions, and lifestyles, the study also carried hour-long interviews and sensory workshops.
Twelve basic principles that we regard as essential components of a thrifting experience were found by this study. We have so developed a graphic framework reflecting these twelve values.
Principle Frames

The framework based on our research findings consists of three interrelated categories: emotions, benefits, and features. Each category connects to the others, creating a comprehensive understanding of our research results.
At the heart of the framework is the emotions category, centered around the feeling of accomplishment. The benefits that contribute to this sense of accomplishment include inclusivity, efficiency, and impact. These benefits are further broken down into specific features that enhance the overall thrifting experience for the user.
Stage 1 :
Non-participant Observation
This observation was based on non-participant obsecration. The observer participated without any interaction throughout, not interfering with the behavior of those being observed, quietly watching and recording. The main purpose of the observation was to study the people who go to thrift stores, their shopping experience, behavior, shopping habits, and the difficulties they encounter.
Customer Behavior

Stage 2 :
Interview
In addition to asking fundamental interview questions, we incorporate interactive methods such as the Experience Canvas and Sensory Cues Canvas. These tools enable participants to visually and tangibly express their thoughts, emotions, and perceptions, fostering a more immersive and insightful discussion. By engaging multiple senses and encouraging a more hands-on approach, we aim to capture deeper, more nuanced user experiences.

Stage 3 :
Affinitization process
